Tonight we went and celebrated Parker's 2nd birthday. The kids were very excited about the gift we got- mostly because they had made the wrapping paper and were very proud of it! We had a delicious dinner and enjoyed homemade ice cream sandwiches. It was a lot of fun! Hapy Birthday Parker!!!

1st grade
Today Carsyn's first grade class hosted chapel. They talked about creation, the fall, redemption, reconciliation and consummation- ya know, basic first grade concepts. I am actually very excited about all that they learned. It is obvious that Ms. H has laid a solid foundation for learning....
C had the opening prayer...
creation...
redemption...
a sassy (and sometimes sweet) product of the fall...
both first grades...
C showing off her portfolio...
grandma and grandpa...
disclaimer:
OK, so I shot mostly on manual and it STINKS! I HATE IT!!! I CANNOT figure it out!
The picture quality is BAD! SO SORRY!

trying new things
So I saw a tutorial for a superhero cape and thought, "That looks easy. Even I could do it!" Reagan had been invited to attend Henry's birthday party (and he LOVES to dress up) so "we" decided to make him one. R and I picked out cool fabric and even decided to applique an "H" on it. Can't be that hard right?!? The day before the party I began the task. First I had to make the pattern (based on my own measuring). That took longer than I thought! Next I laid out the too small pattern on the fabric and cut the supposedly right size for the cape. Oops the top was too short. I added fabric to extend the top. Then I cut out the H and fused it on (sort of). Fnally I sewed it all together. Sounds easier then I let on. I began the task on Monday and finished at 5:45 the next morning. Obviously there were breaks in between! The cape was a hit! Reagan wants one of her own. We'll see....
it's reversible too- shimmery stars are on the back!

weekend in the country
We spent Saturday at Grandma and Grandpa's house (the kids went Friday).
They had a great time with the cousins...

Luke is driving back from Grandma Great's house...
Reagan loves to gather the green rocks in the driveway...

Grandpa found some baby birds. Luke was very excited!
and a nest with eggs...
I left my camera at Doug's house. Let's just say there were liberties taken that I SHOULD post on the internet but I am sparing you! You should definitely thank me!
Here is one that I can post....

worship
My son has an AMAZING teacher! Mrs. B is creative, kind, loving, firm, and knowledgeable about everything that preschoolers should be taught. Yet above all of those things is her heart for God. She has a talent for teaching through a biblical world view. It is not forced, yet it is woven into the fabric of her being. Her love for Jesus is evident in everything she does. We are blessed to be apart of her classroom (for the second time!)
Today Mrs. B and the JK class expressed their love for Jesus and their knowledge of the arts by hosting today's chapel service. The chapel theme was, "We are creative because God is the Creator and we are made in His image." They have been studying artists such as Michelangelo, Calder, Cassatt, Degas and Kandinsky. We got to preview some of their work as we listened to the JK friends worship our Creator. The chapel service was phenomenal!
my cutie!
they start their day in prayer...
Luke's line: "His paintings honor God because they tell stories form God's true book, the Bible. After learning about Michelangelo, we decided we could paint on the ceilings too!"
worshiping in song...
Next week the JK is hosting an Art Gala in their classroom. Each child we be the docent hosting their family. We are very excited to attend our first Gala!!! What does one wear to a Gala?!?

a new family member
Luke: Mom, I asked Gracie to marry me.
Mom: Really?! What did she say?
Luke: She said yes but I told her we would have to wait awhile. She said she could wait.
Mom: I'm glad Gracie will be part of our family!

reality
Ok. So I designated Monday as our "unplug" day. I almost didn't participate because we don't watch much tv as it is (about 2 hours a week- TOPS). The kids don't play on the computer much either (that's my job). So really what's the difference?! None-the-less we did it. I must say it was NOT the day to unplug. Reagan had a treacherous day (her strong will was in full force) and I had no leverage. Well it wasn't so much the leverage as when the confrontation was over (one hour later) I needed some time to myself- hiding in a dark corner crying or eating Ben and Jerry's.
We survived the day though.
playing pirates in my tub...
our caterpillar habitat...
Reagan found a rock and carried it around all afternoon- playing with it, loving on it, putting her tiny animals on it. At dinner time I found it on the counter and discovered it was not a rock. It was a BONE. A nasty, chewed on, old bone. I about threw up! It immediately "disappeared" never to be seen again! Except in pictures (to remind myself to ALWAYS check to see what "treasures" she finds!) I won't even go into the details of the place she found it- it makes me think... hmmm.. what kind of bone is it????
