second grade soccer

Carsyn had her first soccer game this afternoon. It is so much fun to watch second graders on the field. Carsyn LOVES to run and is very focused on the ball (she is also very fast). All of these skills combined make for a great soccer player. We are VERY PROUD of her and ALL of her teammates. The final score (because winning matters) was 2-1. Go CCS girls! :)

J scored our first goal within minutes of the game starting...

I love this shot! They look hilarious!

BTW: I KNOW I have "soccer mom/sideline coaching" tendencies (there was an incident on Hilton Head when Devan lived with us). I will try to keep it in check this year. I may need a friendly reminder now and then.... :)

marvelous mondays

I love that Luke is in half day kindergarten. It leaves our afternoons full of fun (well, unless he takes a nap which is only fun for me!) Most days we play games, read or play outside while Reagan takes her nap. It is fun for us to be together- just us, no big sister, no little sister. He has rarely gotten that in the last 5.75 years seeing as though his baby sister came on the scene when he was only 14 months old.

Anywhooo... another great thing about this half day thing is that Luke spends his Monday afternoons with two buddies: Sam and Stewart. One week they are at Sam's, one week they are at Stewart's and one week at our house. They have a lot of fun together- and they are hilarious to watch! Their personalities and birth order come shining thru (Luke is a middle child, only boy. Sam is baby boy with 2 sisters, and Stewart is baby of 4). I LOVE to see how they approach situations and solve problems. Today they ended our time together with a rousing game of basketball. Sam said, "It's Luke against Stewart and me cause last time I played here Luke got ALL the points and his dad and I lost!" Stewart said, "traveling is OK and sometimes baskets count for 2 points." Luke just went along and played his favorite sport. He was in heaven.

he is famous for stealing the ball...

stewart's "2 pointer"

sam likes to dribble it in and shoot from close range...

flying tree rat

Last night as Carsyn and I were reading in the living room she spotted a small squirrel clinging to our side window. We called all the troops to see this "cute" baby squirrel. As Dale approached he quickly determined that it was a flying squirrel. He, of course, caught it so the kids could observe it. We stuck it in our bug habitat and called some friends to come and see. After a few hours we released him into the wild of our backyard. Not sure why he was awake at that hour (flying squirrels are nocturnal). Maybe he wanted to see what all the daytime hub-ub is about. Whatever the reason the kids thought it was cool....

friends, do not try this at home...

lake williamson then and now.

My parents bought a "fit wheel" (5th wheel) 5 years ago. They joined an organization called SOWERS and now travel the country and do missions work. One of the places they have gone several times is Lake Williamson. It's my kids favorite place they go- mostly because it not too far from us. 4 years ago was our first visit. I went too (because my children were babies!!) This weekend they went with out me (because they are no longer babies!) They LOVE swimming at the indoor pool, eating at the cafeteria, playing at the park and feeding the fish. This year they also enjoyed the obstacle course.
