My life has been intertwined these past few months with the inner-workings of an auction. I was asked to co-chair the silent auction part of our school's Trivia/Auction Night. It has been a wild ride: challenging, time consuming yet fun.
Last night was the main event: A Night of Champions held at the Champions Club at Busch Stadium. The place was packed, the trivia flowed and people spent many dollars. It was a wonderful evening...Here is our table: Beachys, Smouts, Maynors and Walseths. We lost- big time. but we still had a lot of fun!
See the coveted trophy in the background of the last picture?! That belongs to the CUBS this year! :)

i wish i were different
I know that my life is great. I have a wonderful husband, 3 amazing, full-of-life children, and I am in the "career" I always desired. BUT, everyday I wish something were different about me. I am far from perfect and daily wish I were more like:
Melanie because she is easy going.
Lisa because she puts an emphasis on being fit.
Christan because she is devoted to Christ with every ounce of her being.
MC because she could care less about "stuff".
Dale because he has a rare work ethic.
Jodie- because she is artistic.
Julie and Emily because they handle motherhood flawlessly and always look amazing.
and
Jennifer Aniston because she is beautiful. :)
Seriously. I am often not happy with many things about myself: my laziness, my love of sarcasm, my skin, my occasional harsh attitude (insert laugh), my hair color, my impatience. The list could go on....
Last night as Carsyn and I were doing her "devos" it centered on the topic of self-worth: Keli was upset cause a boy was teasing her about her school project and making her feel bad. He mother encouraged her to be confident knowing she did a wonderful job. The next day Keli was complaining about her knobby knees and freckles. Her mom said, "It hurts when someone criticizes something you made. The Bible tells us we are made by God- we are made for his good pleasure. We should thank God rather than criticize him." (Psalm 139:14).
It struck me that rather than complain about who I am or what I look like I should thank God for creating me the way that he did. That's not so say that I can get away with being apathetic about self improvement. I was just reminded that the basic me is just who God wants me to be.

my weekend
Thursday morning a few friends and I hopped on the 9:05 flight to Phoenix. We were spending the long weekend celebrating the 40th birthday of our friend Ana. 6 of us arrived on Thursday (and 8 on Friday.)
Thursday we hung out, went out to dinner at The Spotted Donkey and went to the movies to see Unknown. It was a big night for these 6 mommas!
Friday we slept in and had a nice leisurely coffee. Some of the girls headed to the spa while I relaxed alone at the villa. We all rendezvoused at the spa pool for lunch, "hot" pool time, sauna and steam room time. It was marvelous. The rest of the crew arrived. Later we went to Bogey's for dinner.
Saturday we went different directions. Some went walking, took classes, went hiking or went shopping. Everyone seemed to end up at the spa later in the day. We rounded out the evening with a delicious dinner at Latilla.
There are so many funny stories: from Sandy to Ana's snacks to Audra's behavior in the steam room. I am not sure I could translate the humor... :) It was a wonderful weekend of relaxing and hanging out with "old" friends and new. :)

basketball
We are so proud of Luke. He has tremendous basketball skills for a 1st grader. He is an amazing dribbler- he keeps the ball low and tight. He also is great at looking ahead for a pass (AND passing it). He likes to shoot but has no trouble passing it to an open man. He has been working all week n his shooting skills and it is paying off. He made several baskets today. He has come a long way in the last 2 months. I know he loves it plus it helps that he has a great team of boys to play with.
